De Montfort University (DMU) is a public research and teaching university situated in the city of Leicester, England. The university’s pioneering research, driven by over 1,000 research students and supported by 500 staff, is internationally renowned and addresses some of the most critical issues affecting our world.

Dr Tiziana Sgamma

Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences

Tiziana obtained her BSc and MSc in Agricultural and Industrial Biotechnology from Tuscia University, Italy, and her PhD in Plant and Environmental Sciences from the University of Warwick, UK.

Her research interest focus on researching around the unambiguous identification of plant as a crucial step in the quality control of medicinal plants in order to guarantee the identity and a constant and reliable quality of the starting material.

She is also interested in the effects of plant extracts on human cancer cells and on the possibility of enhancing the production of active compounds in plants using a variety of plant cell cultures and biotechnological approaches.

               Professor Adrian Slater

Adrian obtained his BSc in Biological Sciences from Edinburgh University and PhD in Molecular Biology from Glasgow University. More recently, he was awarded an MSc in Bioinformatics from the University of Leeds.

Most of his research career has focused on biotechnological approaches to plant crop improvement, summarised in his co-authorship of "Plant Biotechnology". His recent research interests are in the DNA barcoding of medicinal plants and the development of DNA authentication tests that target DNA barcode regions.

                     Dr Eva Masiero

Current research interest is focusing on the confirmation of Liriope and Ophiopogon species by using DNA techniques and have experience with a wide range of molecular biology techniques in different model systems such as cell culture and animal tissues.
